he main advantages of these suitcases are:-Light yet very roomy, well thought out for frequent travelers- Don't disintegrate after one international travel or a long trip- Telescoping handle is light sturdy and very easy to manipulate, a boon at airports and travel in general. This particular design has a telescoping handle that locks in 3 positions and works for tall people and also for holding on to the bag when just standing.- Rollabroad bags (2 wheels in back, little feet in front) are great if you just want to walk from train station to destination across concrete or cobblestones, they also give your more interior space for the size due to their design that incorporates the wheels as part of bag rather than have them stick out.If you're new to the Magna range from Travelpro as you're upgrading from another range - the main advantage:- More premium construction than the Maxlite range in the handles, zippers, pockets and overall materials-Some nice extra touches like the suiter, utility straps with pouches- Bag frame is better constructed, overall better handling and performanceIf you're looking at it vs. the previous Magna range - what's new in Magna 2:- Straight across zip pocket in front - more convenient and a bit larger than Magna- Utility straps now have pouch pockets inside for storage- Back has some new much needed reinforcement and the ID tag pull has moved to the side- Suiter design has changed to make it more versatile, it now zips up from the bottom so you can keep your suit jacket and dress pant crease free with a thick rod inside. However, you can pull out the whole arrangement if not needed and just stuff it full with other clothes. If not carrying a suit, I like to use that section for stuff I can just pack away and leave like dressier items. With the new luggage pouches that are available I now prefer to pack socks and undergarments in those rather than stuff this section. Since it unzips from the bottom it might be better anyway, as you don't want all your undergarments falling out when you unzip that section.More details about this bag who're still reading! (Thanks!):Is it easy to maneuver this bag?This 22 inch bag is not a 4 wheel spinner like some of the other bags in this Magna range but a 2 wheel "rollabroad" rolling bag with little feet in front to stand up the bag. I prefer the 2 wheeled bags as they give more space for the size and are easy to wheel on less than perfect roads. I find this style the best for all-purpose travel or international travel. The feet in front have been designed better to help the bag not tip over when standing. Isn't it annoying when your bag constantly falls over at the airport?! The 4 spinner bags tend to fall over much more easily when overpacked.The moulded handle on top and bottom and the front makes it easier to put this bag into overheads and also lift onto your hotel luggage rack without breaking your back. However, a fully packed bag of this size is heavy so lifting it into overheads is difficult. I would not advise you to take this bag for short trips of 1-2 days unless you're carrying a lot.Is it a carry on?The dimensions on this bag are 21 by 14 by 9 inches and at the time this review is written that works with the carry on requirements for most international/domestic airlines in USA (Delta, American, United, Southwest etc.) and many airlines in Europe too (British Airways, KLM, Singapore, EasyJet etc. but NOT RyanAir and Lufthansa).This is perhaps the largest size you can carry on without having to check it in. However, be careful and don't overpack, and if possible don't use the 1 inch extension as that may increase the width past carry on allowed maximum. If you're just traveling for a couple of days, I would go with a smaller bag as this bag is the max allowance for H X L X W for most Airlines and sometimes they may still ask you to check it in at the airline gate or give you a free check-in and that may be an inconvenience if you've packed something that you'd rather bring on board. This bag WILL NOT fit into overheads of some smaller 50-100 people passenger jets and they will probably ask you to check it at the gate.How much can I pack?This bag is perfect for week to 10 day trips if you pack light. If you're a frequent traveler you know how to pack light and this bag can fit a lot. At least 3 dress pants, 1 jeans, 6 shirts, 2 T-Shirts, a suit (suiter section), a week's undergarments and socks, an extra pair of shoes, slippers, toileteries, a pajama set makeup fits in this bag easily. Plus some medicines, magazines or files and a charger and some cords.There is a zipper pouch in the back of the bag that I use for medicines, shavers, toiletries and products with no liquids or just some extra cords and chargers. On the trip back it's perfect for dirty underwear and socks. There are also small zippered pouches in the bag but they're on the utility straps. I agree with other reviewer that utility straps are mostly useless unless you're employing some packing methods that require you strap down stuff. I would have cut them off but now they included these little pouches on them that are useful for small stuff. If you want to section your stuff into 2 inside the bottom of the bag, I would advise strapping it down with straps and then packing more stuff you need for the first night/day on the top.The front flap is an entire roomy pocket and if your bag is not too stuffed it can fit a light jacket with ease. I carry the jacket on to the plane but prefer to put it inside my bag when rolling it.What about durability?The Magna range had an all around leather trim that I am glad they have eliminated now as I have experienced that if you check in leather trim bags the top trim gets all beat up or worse still cut apart by rough baggage handling. This one now has just a little trim on top that should be ok. The nylon materials in this bag are solid and the interior nylon lining is also stain resistant.Travelpro has tried to make this bag less prone to rough handling but the handles stick out more than the Maxlite range as they are moulded. This makes me think they may be more prone to the rough handling if checked in. I prefer to carry on when I can for that reason.Overall, it's a nice bag for a frequent traveler who carries a business suit. It can hold a lot for a longer trip and you can run to the airport at the last minute and carry it on to the plane.
