The laptop pocket has a stretchy velcro strap to hold it more snugly in place, as well as three pockets that can easily fit a gigantic AC adapter and a mouse. The other side has a divider, and is perfect for holding papers; it zips down halfway on each side you you can open it wide to access things. I've even fit two hard-bound lab notebooks and a 1-in binder inside that pocket, all at the same time. It holds quite a lot.
