runs" of the 9. The 90xx is the original design that had some head failure issues. The 92XX is the newer design. There are still many 90xx being sold, especially from discount houses. I chose to go with the new design even though it was a few bucks more. Here are my observations using both.

White beard hairs: 9 wins hands down. The 9 has an extra cutter in the middle of the head that is designed for stubborn white hairs that stick out an resist electric razors. If you look a photos, you will see that the 7 has one central cutter, while the 9 has two cutters, each with a different design.

Trimmer: Depends. The 7 has a clipper, like a small barber's clipper that flips out from the side of the unit. The 9 has a small cutter that slide up above the main cutter and looks like a "personal groomer". The 7 is probably better at sideburns, but the 9 is better at everything else (especially "personal grooming" if you get my drift.

Speed: 9 by a little. Speed is listed as a benefit, but I found it only a little faster.

Sound: 9 is definitely quieter, but far from silent.

Cleaning: First, buy the cleaning base with either. It is a system. Many troubleshooting FAQs involved undoing problems caused by never using the base and only cleaning manually. That said. the 9 base is bigger. It is also shiny black so it looks cool but shows dust more. The 9 dries with a fan rather than a heater. This means it supposedly dries faster, but it also means that you smell the alcohol in the cleaner solution more. Since I shave only once a day, I actually liked the 7 base better.

Indicators: 7 wins. The 7 has an led "dial" with multiple levels of cleanliness on the handle. The 9 only has a "drop" symbol to indicate clean, but no sense of how dirty.

Battery: Tie. Never had a problem with either. This is another reason to have the base. Lithium batteries like to stay fully charged. The base insure that. Expected battery life is 3-5 years. My 7 is still going strong after 8 (I kept it as a travel shaver).

Bottom line: If you are at the age where white hair are cropping up in your beard, spend the extra for the 9. If you really hate the smell of alcohol in the morning, get the 7. Otherwise, it become a matter of aesthetics. The 7 gives you at least 90% of the performance of the 9 but for a lot fewer $.

Not only did this razor shave 50% off the time I spend shaving it gives me a closer shave too. I didn’t expect it to be such a large improvement over the Series 7. The cleaning cycle is much shorter too but the razor is just as clean.

I don’t know why there are mixed reviews for this razor, from the first stroke I could tell I was getting a much improved shave. I changed the cutting head regularly on my older razors and never got a shave like I did with this one. This razor is expensive but I’m glad I spent the money on it.

Electric, single blade, triple blade, 5 blade, safety razor, gel, cream, conditioner, dry, wet, hot, cold, with aftershave, without aftershave, with the grain, against the grain, etc... I must have the world’s most sensitive skin because I ALWAYS end up with red blotches of razor burn all over the face. For 20+ years, I’ve always had to resort back to using a trimmer to cut my beard back to a stubble shadow.

Every few years, I start looking for a new angle on achieveing a clean shave, expecting it will end up the same as all the rest. Somewhere my most recent search, I started reading about this Braun razor. It’s expensive, so I was hesitant to give it a shot. Then, I reasoned, I’ve already spent hundreds and hundreds exploring every other avenue, so what’s a couple hundred more?

I’m really excited to say, this is the first time in my life I’ve been able to get a clean shave without razor burn. As dumb as it sounds, It’s honestly been life changing for me. I’ve even tried other electric shavers (3 others, and not all cheap ones), and they didn’t help. This is the only one.

It may only be a solution for me, but I 100% recommend giving this razor a try if your looking for a solution to shaving with super sensitive skin.

Refill packages are fairly expensive.

with a new head, the series 7 was leaving a lot of hairs uncut, despite repeated passes. I have lots of grey hair, but it was not just the grey hair that eluded the shaver. So I read the reviews that indicated that the new head on the series 9 was better at cutting thicker hairs and decided to give it a try.

The series 9 has worked extremely well, and that is why I am giving it 5 stars. It gets all the hairs and shaves very close. That said, there are some minor shortcomings. (i) When I turn it on, it sounds as if it doesn't synch correctly, making a momentary grinding noise before it catches, although then it operates smoothly. No predecessor ever did this. (ii) I don't particularly like the trimmer in comparison to the one on the series 7, but no problem, since I still have the series 7 and just use that trimmer. I am careful to open and close it gently, since I once had to have a trimmer replaced. And (iii) the series 9 goes through cleaning fluid noticeably faster than the series 7 did. Overall, though, it does such a good job that can overlook these issues.

a shave than any Norelco, and just about as close. The cleaning apparatus works simply and accurately, which can't be said about the somewhat confusing Series 7 docking device, but I've mastered it. I, in fact, own two of these and use them simultaneously for rapid removal of overnight growth. Battery life is over a week, sometimes up to 9 days, and cleaning as I mentioned is a breeze. I have not encountered any of the problems referred to in some of the less favorable reviews. Not one.

series 9 shaver is without a doubt the best one I have ever used and in my 62 years and I have used a lot of shavers. Quite often I will go two or three days without shaving yet this series 9 cleans my face without any pulling, pinching or razor burn. It is quiet and keeps a charge. Can't say enough good about it. Now, in about a year after I have put it to a lot of use I will post another review to see if I am still in love with it!
