oned close to your back for better weight distribution. Plus, there's a flat pocket in the front, a top quick-access pocket, and straps and foam side walls to cinch-down your load. These are all great features, but I ended-up returning it for one major reason: it's just not comfortable to carry.

The shoulder straps are adequate; they tuck-away behind the back panel when not in use. They do include load-lifter straps that can be buckled to the top of the pack to help balance the weight of the pack, and that does help a bit. But, the waist strap is a joke; the padded portion is too short to provide much support. Additionally, the use of a plastic frame sheet limits the functionality of the waist belt. Finally, the back panel seems to be regular, nylon fabric, so it provides little airflow, and means that you'll end-up with a sweaty back fairly quickly.

If you don't plan to carry this bag for long periods of time, I think it would probably be adequate; the organization options and the foam side "wings" allow for very easy packing and unpacking. But, if you value comfort of carry more, as I do, this probably isn't the bag for you. In that case, you might want to look at the Farpoint 40. It doesn't have the organization options, but it is much more comfortable to carry. If only Osprey would make a pack with the Porter's organization but the Farpoint's suspension... I think I'd marry that pack.

nics and other necessities, the laptop compartment is now up against the back (2017 model) instead of in the outer pocket, multiple configuration options using the backpack straps or shoulder strap. I've stowed the bag under the seat and in the overhead bins on widebody aircraft without any trouble, and it fits in the overhead bin on the regional jets I fly, although I could see an overstuffed bag having trouble.

The cons: I'm 6'2" and a big guy, so the waist strap sits too high on me to be comfortable. I just leave the waist straps stowed inside the bag. The chest strap is similarly awkward on me, so I haven't used it. The shoulder straps are well-padded, but not as wide as I imagined. It's comfortable enough, but maybe less so than the straps of my Swissgear laptop bag (although I do carry more weight in the Osprey bag). The shoulder strap for this bag is not included, so you either have to use one you have, order a generic strap, or order the matching strap from Osprey and wait a loooong time for it. Last nitpick: the Castle Grey isn't so much grey as "olive drab". Kind of surprising. It's not unattractive, but it wasn't the color I expected. In light of that, I might have ordered black instead, but the Castle Grey is distinctive in the event I ever have to check it... so, that's a plus?

With clothes in compression cubes, toiletries, an extra pair of shoes and a packable daypack, I can easily pack for a three day business trip in a single bag. All in all, I'm very happy with the bag and would purchase again without hesitation.

Anyways, so after some research, this was the better option in regards to the durability, the utility of pockets, and the security from pickpockets as compared to the other travel backpacks I looked at. Upon receipt I compared packing space with the carry-on luggage (Briggs & Riley Sympatico International Carry-On Spinner, Burgundy, 21 Inch) I already had. I used (Shacke Pak - 4 Set Packing Cubes) and I was able to pack everything thing needed for my 1 week trip equally. Granted, it was very tight for my Osprey. I was unable to use the side pockets effectively with all 4 cubes packed in while my luggage still had some wiggle room. But then again, it depends on the circumstances of my trip. Most of the things I packed into my luggage are specific to my trip and activities (Destination Wedding) as opposed to a trip that would probably be more suitable for the Osprey (visiting relatives in Australia).

The only downside I can see so far from this bag is the grip on the side of the bag for the option to hold it like a duffel. The way its positioned, the weight is not distributed corrected and it feels very awkward. The cushion on the grips are very soft and comfortable though and all the straps do make the bag feel very secure.

I have a trip coming up in July when I will actually be using the Osprey, I will update my review then.

y had addressed the few desired improvements I could have thought of. It has an easy access padded laptop or IPAD pocket for going through those annoying transit security lines when passing through countries or going anywhere in America plus another easy access roomy pocket to stuff my down jacket I always want available for those freezing terminal waits and sometimes cold flights. AND then: Osprey's customer service guy says to ship the old bag to us for repair and voila' three weeks later I've got my old bag fixed up with new zipper pulls and a new sturdy handle.
