Though they were different brands, I belive the internals were likely made by the same company, which seems to have a quality control issue. This one is different from those -- uses a different battery, for example.
And it works properly.
The backlight is a nice feature. I cannot hear the beep on any of the ones I got recently. It is apparently a frequency too high for older ears. I do have an old one that I can hear, so that could be fixed. For some reason nobody does. With the light it is not a problem.
