原文： I should start by saying I’m a bit of a Sennheiser fan. While I haven’t owned any IEM’s from Sennheiser I do own a good variety of their open back headphones from the middle to upper end of the spectrum. Their “veiled” signature is very pleasing to me on the HD558 and HD650 and the analytic speedy
ultra detailed nature of the HD700 and HD800s blows me away.
I do own and have owned a lot of other headphones from a lot of different companies on all ends of the spectrum from Skullcandy, Apple, AKG, Beats, Monster, Samsung, Sony, Audio Technica, Bose, Klipsch, V-Moda and more. While I am no audiophile I have a great appreciation for music and enjoy listening to music with good quality equipment. I don’t have super high end amps or DACs and use anywhere from low end Fiio amps to the Schiit Fulla 2, to the Schiit Stack with the Modi Multibit with Magni 3. Music wise I like just about everything to some degree but really like classic Rock, 90’s alternative/punk/rock, and classical. To sum it up, I’m no pro but I have varied experience in audio.
These are my first higher end IEM’s. In the past I have used generally cheap IEM’s or the Klipsch S4i which were great for me for a while. I took a long time choosing IEM’s and I had read a lot of mixed things about the I80s but then there were mixed reviews about most of the IEM’s in this price range because sound and sound signature can be very subjective. I looked at comparable Shure and AKG IEM’s but decided that Sennheiser hadn’t let me down before so just try them out.
The build quality feels very nice. I worried that they would feel like normal IEM’s and be fragile but they feel substantial and like quality construction. The cable detaches but only with a good bit of force and there is a nice solid click attaching them. The cable is good but nothing to write home about. It should hold up well but I’m already looking at custom cables. The fit was a little awkward at first but eventually I found out how to put them in my ears well and ever since the comfort is excellent and the seal is good. I used the installed silicone tips which fit great but these come with a large variety of silicone tips as well as Comply Foam tips in different sizes. I find the foam tips don’t alter the signature enough to make me use the silicone and lose the isolation benefits of the foam. The accessories are decent and I like the case although I had to alter it to be more usable on a regular basis. The wax cleaner also has a small flathead portion for adjusting the bass but honestly even though I like bass the stock and lowest setting is more than enough for me.
In terms of sound quality they aren’t perfect and in ways they stray from what I expected Sennheiser to do in this price range by elevating the bass so much at the cost of some of the middle range but the highs are detailed and smooth, the mids are still excellent, and the extra bass can be fun. What really amazed me was the imaging and separation that I had never heard in IEM’s before and frankly still impresses me. I was hoping that with the bass adjuster that maybe I could have something closer to neutral with minimum bass adjusted but even on this lowest setting you have what Sennheiser is calling a U-shaped sound signature. Now I actually like bass when the music calls for it and the bass here is pretty tight and punchy and I feel like it has a sound signature much closer to that of V-Moda but with much better mid and high range. I think Sennheiser was trying for fun “audiophile” IEM’s and I have to say in most regards I think they succeeded. It may be too much sacrifice for unwanted extended bass for some and especially in this price range but I think a lot of people will really enjoy what Sennheiser has here.
There is a slight caveat to getting the best of what these have to offer. When I plugged these straight into my iPhone 7 Plus at first I was somewhat disappointed. It sounded fine in fact good but not great and not what I hoped for. It was only after giving these a little more juice through an amp that I really saw what the I80s is capable of. The sound opened up and the detail shined through the previous somewhat muddy sounding haze I had heard straight through the iPhone. They became the earphones I had hoped for and I hadn’t even burned them in long.
The problem here and the reason I think these IEM’s have some poor reviews is people are only trying these on their phones which yes makes sense because IEM’s are typically more for portability. The thing is, these are high end headphones and people taking their music this seriously are potentially going to be using a portable DAC/Amp, a DAP, or even a phone built more for music playback like the LG v10, v20, or v30 phones. I think if more used these IEM’s with better sources they would be much happier with the sound quality and signature here but I also think it is a little troubling that IEM’s could be so source dependent when they cost so much. Yes you don’t buy high end headphones and expect them to sound good from your phone but I do see why people would expect IEM’s to be at least a little different.
Overall I really like these headphones but I also have the capabilities of driving them at home, at the office, and even portably. I do think there is something to be said about the source dependence and the price and if these sounded as good with a decent amp as they do from something like an iPhone, I would recommend them at $350 with 5 stars all day long. However I cannot say these are for everyone at that price and 5 stars. If you understand what you’re getting here and have the ability to run these IEM’s with at least a phone like the LG V series then I can say they are definitely worth a try because I think they’re truly great IEM’s. If you are just going to run these off an android or iPhone without an added amp I don’t recommend getting these but if you want serious sound with amazing clarity, soundstage, speed, with a nice healthy dose of bass and are willing to power these, I can easily recommend them.
[UPDATE] switched to the larger flanged eartips and they work well but you lose out on a lot isolation from the foam. I do like how much easier the silicone tips are to get in and out of your ears without compressing them like you have to for the foam tips.
Also regarding some of the other reviews, you shouldn’t really consider reviews for the seller as reviews of the product. Just because you got the wrong product sent to you or an open item doesn’t mean the product is bad.
Finally I attached a picture of the modified case which makes it far easier to get your IEM’s in the case without trying to make a small spool of the cable to fit.

Went back to the Comply Foam and after burn in, I am really happy with the sound. Also using an upgraded balanced cable that actually improves the audio even more.
