The lid comes off for wide mouth access to easily drop in ice cubes.
The seal holds under high pressure but care should be taken not to go overboard tightening it, as the seal can be damaged if someone goes ape on it. The narrow rim will give a tight seal on the silicone sealing ring with minimal force; you can test it by putting hot water in it and lightly tightening the cap, and you can see how little force is needed to properly seal it. Push the button and the top will pop like a champagne cork with the built up pressure.
If the lid doesn't pop open on its own, pull off the silicone peg used as a spring, and reinstall it, to get the air pressure in it that assists in the spring action. The one I got would only open with a feeble action until I did this, and now it pops open the way it should.
Be careful cleaning it when rinsing the cap vigorously, as it may dislodge the cap into the sink, and if you're not aware of it, the cap will no longer seal next time you use the bottle.
The rubber grip can sometimes slide if you let water get underneath it when washing, allowing the layer of water to act as a lubricant. You can remove it and dry it off fully, then roll it back into place to restore the grip.
While it's reasonably rugged and will survive accidental drops, if you drop the bottle on its head while full, you can break the cap, so don't flip it around with abandon. I've got some dents on the bottom when dropped also, but luckily it didn't impair performance of the insulation.
The newer styles of this bottle are not as good as this one, SS bail latch on this one is a better design.
