I purchased a 42 long. The length of the coat is right at the knees, only slightly above, but the sleeves are perfect in length. I normally wear a 41 long/reg sports coat.
For reference here are my proportions, and shirt and pant sizes to help anyone with picking a size.
6' / 170 lbs, 33" waste and 30" - 32" inseam
Shirt size is 16" neck with 34"-35" sleeves
If I had gone for a 42 reg, I feel the sleeves would definitely have been too short.

I have downgraded this by 1 star since being exposed to sub 25 degree temps in 15 mph winds. The coat is heavy, but the weave is loose. Cold winds cut through. I have had 2 wool pea coats that do not exhibit this characteristic in the same type of weather. I do not have unrealistic expectations about this style of coat, but I was surprised at how much the wind penetrated the weave. If the weave was more dense, I could easily be comfortable with the weight coupled with a suit/sports jacket underneath in these conditions.
This is a 30 degree coat or higher in 10+ mph winds.

The only place you could tell the item was Hilfiger was in a tag inside the collar.
