I found this clock radio to be a good size, functional and quite easy to use. The sound is as you would expect in this price class (its not Bose all surround sound), but o.k. for the purpose. Setting time and alarm works in the all common two-button fashion. This is where the mod
el loses plenty of stars. The buttons in my clock are not making proper contact. As a result the numbers are not counting up consecutively, but would jump uncontrollably two or three units (hours) over the desired setting, or do not change at all at other times. This has potential for frustrating moments before bedtime and bears the danger for the Philips AJ3116M/37 to be slammed against the next wall.

My other clocks are phones, appliances, and an atomic clock, appliances get reset when the power goes out and the other clocks are always updated. That makes it very noticable and annoying when this clock is 4 minutes different. Very strange! Other than that it's a nice clock, I guess?

AUGUST 3, 2017 I have readjusted my 5 star original rathing to 3 stars. I found after using this clock for a while that every time our electricity went out for even a few seconds I had to re-set everything. The battery back up did not work. I replaced the batteries several times but it never did function properly. Since we live in a rural area where the power may go out briefly during bad weather this clock just didn't make the grade for me. I have replaced it with another, similar clock that holds it's settings.

i dont use it as an alarm any more, its just a bedside clock since the alarm wont wake me up, didnt take off any stars for that since im just a hard person to wake lol
