It reassured me that one of my children just ran higher but normal temps (98.8-99.1). I love that the button and viewing screen are on the side facing me when I take a temp. The part that touches the forehead is also softer and a better shape for taking a good temperature (the Exergen one is really hard plastic and can hurt if you press too hard).
I compared both thermometers together to see how accurate the readings were. They both give me the same readings on one person. I just like the features on this Braun better. I keep the Exergen in one First Aid kit and keep the Braun on the main level of our house. If I had to recommend someone get one I would recommend this Braun. Right now I think they run about the same prices. If price were an issue Exergen is still a good one to get; just not as functionally attractive.
A lot of negative reviews are based on the user not using the thermometer correctly (no matter the thermometer). You cannot take back-to-back temperatures. You will get different readings. If you try to take a temp and it messes up you need to wait about 60 seconds before taking a new temp so the mechanism can recalibrate. You can often get one reading (like 100.4) and then immediately re-take the temp and get something lower (like 99.9). WAIT to retake a temp with the same thermometer or you will not get accurate readings. Hope that helps!

We don't trust this thermometer much more than as a "is it possible she has a temperature?" indicator, and often not even for that. For example, after a month of realizing this thing varies a ridiculous amount my husband and I can each took 5 readings within a 30 minute timeframe, some back to back, some waiting 5 minutes, some waiting 10. We got ranges of 99.1 to 102.1 on a quiet, non-moving baby. Yes, ranges of almost 3 degrees. The rectal thermometer verified her actual temperature was 102.4.
This thermometer was a huge waste of money and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. After doing some sleuthing I find that a large majority of the "rave" reviews come from folks who were provided this thermometer free to review. Sure, some folks may not be biased when they write a review on a free product, but based on the high rating this thermometer has on Amazon vs. my horrendous first-hand experience with it I'm thinking those folks are few and far between.
Do yourself a favor and do NOT buy this thermometer.

t 3-5 times and then average the results. That's usually pretty close to the right temp. It's a balancing act: using this thermometer to get a close to accurate temp or invading my baby's space to get an accurate temp rectally. I use both, but it would be nice if this were more accurate.
Helpful hint: if it shows that your baby has a super high temp, use it on yourself to see if it's reading correctly (you should have some idea if you have a high temperature or not) before you go to the ER. Save some money on unnecessary medical bills...

I got this one because it's hard to measure a baby's temperature using those armpit thermometer. There are 3 problems with this one.
1. It is not accurate. It has been complained by many other reviewers and trus

2. It is not that convenient compare to armpit thermometers. My baby girl does not like it on her forehead so she keep moving her head when I do the measurement. I need someone to hold her head while I do it while the armpit one I can do the measurement all by myself.
3. The ERROR shows all the time in winter season. I live in those cool areas where we have a long winter and even kind of cool in summer time. Even the room is set to be around 70, the thermometer itself could be lower than that consider it is plastic and metal. I have to WARM it up every time I use it!!!!
