o a good job protecting one person, the reason we have two. We have never had a problem with the open/close function. We have encountered heavy rains and some stiff winds and they did a good job of keeping us dry.. I don't think they would do well in torrential rains or strong wind because they were not manufactured for that purpose. Being light weight and small make them excellent for travelling
