e weight well, but most importantly, the straps in the bottom on the front suck. There are no teeth that the straps feed through, so it's constantly loosening and it's so annoying. I was able to tie a knot to kind of fix it. Also, with the heavy load, your shoulder straps will loosen a lot over time. So my verdict: if you're going for heavy over long distance, don't buy this.

ts on the sides are already torn up from climbing and general use. (I'd recommend matching the fabric the rest of the pack is made out of rather than netting and making them slightly larger, barely fit a 32oz water bottle in/under the pouch above)2. The stitching on the top and bottom sinch points are not sturdy, I already have fraying and stitches coming loose from attaching a tent/sleeping pad.3. The shoulder strap adjusters do not hold the straps in place with a 55lb load in the pack. I had to keep tightening them down while walking.4. Like other reviewers have said the sleeping bag section in the bottom is barely big enough for a standard size 30 degree sleeping bag. Forget putting your sleeping bag in a stuff-sack then putting it in the bottom compartment, you have to stuff it in then force it to zip.Overall it will get the job done. But, your shoulders will hurt and you will wish you bought a better bag.

bag is much too small. I had to rethink the way I pack my bag and put my sleeping bag in the main compartment. I used to sleeping bag compartment for my change of clothes and toiletries. This is a very good bag and if they would just fix the problem with the sleeping bag compartment being so small it would be excellent. But even with that I would purchase it again if necessary. I would recommend this to anyone as long as you're aware that's a sleeping bag compartment is too small to fit most sleeping bags. Great product but not a five star

until I found one that suited me just right and I've used it ever since.So what makes for a good backpack? In my opinion a good backpack should have a strong padded frame. Lots of space with easily accessible pockets. Weatherproof of course and above all be comfortable, after all you are going to be wearing this for most of the day. A good hip strap to take the weight off of your shoulders and shoulder straps wide enough and padded enough that they do not dig in.So how does the Amazon Basics 55L backpack shape up? First thing I have to say is that even though this comes under the branding of "basics" I have found that Amazon Basics products are anything but basic and this backpack certainly falls into that category. At 55 liters carrying capacity this falls somewhere into the medium backpack category. Good enough for a 4-5 day hike.The shoulder straps are nice and wide and well padded and it has a nice thick padded hip strap along with a small chest strap to hold the backpack in place. The hip strap does a good job of taking the weight off your shoulders and making hiking easier. The chest strap keeps the backpack close to your back so that it doesn't lean back and cause discomfort. One great thing about the shoulder straps is that they are adjustable to fit your upper torso length. You can adjust it to fit just right which is excellent and helps tremendously in the comfort department.It doesn't however have a strong steel or aluminum structure running down the back which makes the backpack flex a little. There is some kind of structure in there to stiffen and strengthen the backpack but not what I'm used to. The main structure is split into two, as per most backpacks, with the main carrying area big enough for your sleeping bag, food etc. The top of which extends to give you more room if needed. The smaller carrying area underneath is also of a good size and zippered separately. There are pockets galore on this with two main deep zippered pouches, one on either side. A couple of mesh pouches on either side of the bottom compartment. A pouch built into the hood of the backpack, a fairly large front zippered pouch and more. Lots and lots of space for maps, snacks and anything else that you may want to get your hands on easily.Color wise the backpack is black for the main part with an olive green front and hood. It is very well built with strong stitching in the places you need it most like the shoulder straps and the carrying handle. One thing I would have liked to see would have been a re-enforced carrying handle, a fabric wrapped metal bar. I use this a lot to get the backpack on and off and just generally moving it around and since it is just fabric it tends to dig into my hands a bit when the backpack is full.Overall this is a very good product that could be amazing if it just paid attention to a couple of little things like the carrying handle and internal frame. This Amazon Basics backpack is very well constructed, comfortable to wear and anything but basic.
