After spending almost $4,000 on headphones in 2017 and 2018, I almost became convinced that there really wasn’t one. At least not until beyerdynamic released the Aventho.Music has always been a major part of my life and I have always been quick to point out that even though I can’t sing worth a dang, I hear very well. Trust me when I say that I love all genre and I expect a set of “cans” to perform well with my varied assortment of music. I wanted, wait…, “needed” something that would perform outstandingly with classical music all the way to metal rock genres.I have tried most of the “top” rated headphones and some were good, while others were a major disappointment (i.e Bowers and Wilkins PX). Note: Do not always believe the internet ratings.I loved the comfort levels of the Bose QC35 and Soundlink, but they really didn’t shine sonically for me. The V-Moda Forza Metallo sounded phenomenally great (almost Etymotic Research ER4S level), but after a while my ears would start to hurt (like the ER4S). Over-ear headphones like my Sony MDR1000x offered the best in sound quality and noise cancellation but were not ideal when I’m active (which I always am). They would get too hot. Soon, I discovered that on-ear headphones suited my lifestyle best. In other words, I was looking for on-ear headphones with a combination of the pure comfort from Bose Soundlink and Sennheiser HD1 superior sound.This brings me to the Aventho.Out of the box, I was initially disappointed. While very comfortable, there was a severe lack of separation between instruments and the midrange was over powering some of the subtler supporting melodies in the background. Some highs were too forward and caused me to step back and go what the “f” was that?So, here is what I did. First step was to perform a burn-in for 24 hours using a burn-in track that I got from HDTracks. Then I updated the firmware and reset the sound profile using the beyerdynamic MIY app.Right now, I am smiling ear to ear while listening to some of my favorite tracks. The Aventho sounds crisp and with plenty of bass, but still sounding very balanced throughout the audio range. The separation is good and there is plenty of volume. But if I really want to let this thing loose, all I have to do is use my balanced 4.4mm to 3.5mm TRRS cable and go wired. Wow!I’ll keep my Sony MDR1000x for live performances and classical genres where a wide soundstage is important. However, the Aventho will be my goto for everything else.I know the audio experience is subjective and these headphones are rather expensive, but I am sure you will be as pleased as I am if you take the leap. You get what you pay for (sometimes).Pros Sound Quality Light Weight Very comfortable Battery Life (30 hours) Reasonable sound isolation (no active cancellation) 3.5mm wired input USB-C 180 degree side to side cup rotation 90 degree up/down cup rotation Touch controls are better than the Sony MDR1000X. Minimal Sound leakage aptX and aptX HD Multipoint connectivity Voice prompts are a nice touch. Can be used wired with power off.Cons They are not foldable; however, they do lay flat for storage. Power button is stiff to press. But will not turn on/off by accident. Touch controls can be activated by accident. The beyerdynamic MIY app is not currently ready for prime time (should improve in time). Rather cheap supplied cablesAlso, I must point out that I do like the canvas storage bag (more compact). But I know some would prefer a hard case. They look and sound absolutely amazing and the only thing they lack is the latest Bluetooth 5 spec that would help give them exactly what they need to deliver close to the same performance wirelessly. They are a true pair of audiophile headphones that will bring a smile to your face, with superb highs, mids and lows that dive deep into the detail your ears are yearning for.Wirelessly, they perform fine, but at the sacrifice of Bluetooth compression. ed, I decided to cut the cord. I still use wired phones at home, but for the gym and travel the cord is really a nuisance. So it was between these, the Sennheiser HD1 and the B&W PX, (and I suppose the Sony WH1000XM2). I love the on-ear design of the beyers. I use them at the gym, because in-ears don't work for me. The other contenders were kind of out, because they are all more over the ear, which is too bulky for how I intend to use them. I have not listened to any of the other phones I mentioned, so all I have to compare them to is the t51i, and other higher end over the ear phones like my Denon AHD2000s, all wired cans. But I am extremely happy with the Aventhos. Listening critically, they aren't quite as lively & accurate as the t51i's, but for the way I use them, in the gym, on the bus or plane, the disadvantage is not at all noticeable. They are very close to the t51s, matching their frequency response and sonic character, but just lacking a little something in imagery and realness in a totally quiet surrounding, but I don't use them for that. Connectivity is fabulous. I've only had dropouts maybe twice, or if I go out of range of about 15 feet. Battery lasts a long time. They are solid & feel well made. Clamping force is a little greater than the t51i, which is a good thing. So all in all, I'm very happy with the purchase, and don't experience the fact that they are bluetooth as a sonic liability compared with the t51i

I just don't know why the Bluetooth isn't working. I could have saved that money and just gotten the wired version of this device. I reached out the the manufacturer and will update this review appropriately when it will hopefully get fixed. Using it on a Samsung Note 9 (Snapdragon 845) with android 8.1UPDATE:I did an exchange and the new headphones had NO ISSUES at all with the bluetooth. Must have been a faulty device. The sound is superb!
